Fruit and Vegetable Diets

Are there any vegetables/fruit that grow well in the partial shade?

I want to grow some fruit/vegetables in my garden but I only have a garden which is in the partial shade. However, it is quite a big plot. Does anyone know any fruit/vegetables which will grow well? Thanks

  1. Tomatoes and cucumbers do well in partial shade when you buy the plants look at the tag in the soil it will tell you!
  2. Spinach, all sorts of lettuce greens. Beets are forgiving, some bean types. I suggest you obtain a few seed catalogues now (they are usually free, just go to web and enter seed catalogues). They are full of information. I am going to key in shade veg gardening, one of our trees has gotten large and one of our gardens is getting that way. Also web sites to do with gardening. P.Allen Smith, Martha Stewart (I'm not kidding - its v. good). There are many out there . Tomatoes require warmth and sun.
  3. Most veg and fruit like full sun but will still do well in partial shade. It depends how partial it is . Last year I grew potatoes, carrots, beetroot, onions, sweetcorn, rocket and green beans in partial shade (shaded for 5 hours a day in summer) and they all did well. You do not need constant bright sunshine all the time to grow veg. Just go for it. As long as they get about 5 hours sunshine a day they'll be fine. Good luck to you.
